PDX’s New Microcinema

blog post

New at PDX!

It’s finished! A few weeks ago, Portland International Airport PDX unveiled its free microcinema on Concourse C. The new 1920s-inspired Hollywood Theatre has seating for 17, an impressive $200,000 projection and sound system, and a marquee to make any historic cinema jealous!

Now all ticketed passengers can drop in free of charge while they’re waiting for their flight. Check in an hour early to watch the hour-long loop of G-rated short films from Oregon filmmakers: an animated film, a music video, a documentary, mini-shorts and more.

Airports in Asia and Europe have hopped on the cinema trend wagon, but American airports (besides Minneapolis) are slow to catch on. Here’s to hoping more take up the idea in the future!
