2. Vete-Katten

Everyone’s favorite café and bakery is sure to become a hit with your mom. With its Old World, genteel charm and pastries to die for, Vete-Katten has been a Swedish iconic landmark since its opening in 1928. We recommend the succulent pistachio knotted buns or the iconic semlor (now in season!).

3. Moderna Museet

This quirky museum’s main exhibits are a wild blend of modern sculptures, paintings and posters, a crash course of 20th-century art and design. Located on the island of Skeppsholmen, visitors will find pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Matisse, Duchamp and many more. Outside, the sculpture park is a quirky display of art from all over the world. Check its calendar for current temporary exhibitions.

4. Mosebacke Design District

For design-loving moms, Mosebacke was pulled together this year by design agency Woodstockholm to coincide with Stockholm Design Week. Here you’ll find vintage house items at Shopping Republic, toys and furniture at JR Workshop design studio, and Scandinavian home furnishings at Aplace. You and your mom will definitely want to pop in to Green Laces, to discover the largest selection of vegan shoes and accessories.

5. Tipsy Tea

Take your afternoon tea with a twist, with Tipsy Tea at the boutique designer hotel At Six. This fun and quirky cocktail bar serves tea-infused gin cocktails in teapots. Served warm or chilled, accompanied with tasty treats and elegant vinyl wall art, on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm — what’s not to love?

6. Canal Cruise from Stockholm

The “Venice of the North” has ample opportunities for cruising out on the water, either westward on Lake Mälaren or eastward into the Archipelago. Take your mother on an archipelago cruise for a classic tour to the island towns of Vaxholm or Sandhamn. On Lake Mälaren, you can book a guided tour to the elegant Drottningholm Palace or cruise up north to Sigtuna, Sweden’s former capital. Book all day trips on Strömma’s website.

7. Souvenir Shopping on Drottninggatan

Explore Central Stockholm on Drottninggatan or Queen Street, which stretches from the city center in Norrmalm all the way to Vasastaden. This busy little street is popular with tourists and locals alike, home to bustling cafés, restaurants and shops—and did we mention it’s super pedestrian-friendly?

8. Cocktails on the Rooftop

Your mom will love the modern Nordic-Japanese fusion rooftop restaurant TAK, which boasts an impressive panoramic view of the skyline. This trendy menu offers innovative flavors such as smoked pork neck with jalapeno, arctic char and daikon, mackerel and ponzu, all paired with custom-made saké. Mouth-watering dishes to go with its jaw-dropping vista.
